Meet Chef Patty- Dinner is Served

First, Let me say “hello” and introduce myself, my name is Chef Patty Shanahan.  I have had a love for eating and preparing good food for family and friends since I was a young teen.  I loved watching and learning from my mother and grandmother and I happily took on much of the cooking as I got older.

Dinner was a special time in my family, as the youngest of seven children, there was never a dull moment around our dinner table.  There was rarely a dinner that passed without a spilled glass of milk or a lively commotion about the family “goings on”.  Our daily mealtime was where we all came together to keep in touch and learn about what was going on in each of our lives.  As I look back, dinner time was really a fun and a memorable time for all of us to have a laugh and to enjoy being together as a family.

Chef PattyMy passion and curiosity for diet and nutrition really began when I was in my mid twenties.   I began to experience some of the negative health consequences that a love for good (and bad) food can have.  My cholesterol was creeping up, as was my weight and a series of digestive problems.  I was convinced that there was really something wrong with me, I sought medical attention and after a series of tests I’ll never forget my doctor saying, “Honey, it’s your diet”.  From that point forward, I became passionate about healthy eating and the impact that a good diet can have on your overall health and wellness.  I took my passion and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Loma Linda University in Southern California and I subsequently became a Registered Dietitian.  The last several years have been spent in the medical and pharmaceutical industry honing my skills and knowledge about nutrition and how a healthy diet that is prepared with beautiful and nutritious food can directly impact health and disease.

My mission now is to share what I have learned through my own experiences and my love for good food with others.  I want families to look back on their dinner time with the same fond memories that I have always had and to enjoy good food that is prepared in a delicious and nutritious way.
